 Né le 9 avril 1958, Frederick Rousseau a collaboré avec deux des plus  grands noms de la musique électronique, d&apos;abord 

Jean-Michel Jarre

 au  début des années 80, ensuite avec 

Vangelis




  


 dont il est devenu au fil du  temps le directeur musical. Il est aujourd&apos;hui sollicité à la fois pour le  cinéma, la télévision et s&apos;est fait un nom internationalement dans le  monde de la musique. Sa formation au piano classique ne l&apos;a pas  empêché d&apos;essayer de nombreux autres instruments : batterie, basse,  guitare, percussions.
 Et pourtant, le destin de Frederick aurait pu être tout autre s&apos;il avait p  poursuivi son engagement dans l&apos;armée, pour le compte du CEA  (Commissariat à l&apos;énergie atomique) où il travaillait sur des têtes de missiles nucléaires.






  


En 1980, il devient associé avec Francis Mandin, ex-membre de Clearlight, pour développer le magasin 

Music

 Land à Paris, et succède ainsi à Joël Fagerman et 

Francis Rimbert

, qui géraient le premier magasin de ce genre, Phonorgan. Le magasin, qui a été créé en septembre 1979, a une section synthétiseur très développé (

Minimoog

, Elka, Clavinet, Korg, Sequencial Circuits). Le magasin est le premier centre européen de musique électronique, et il est parrainé par Jean Michel Jarre.

Vangelis vient s&apos;approvisionner à

 Land en synthétiseurs pour les sessions parisiennes de l&apos;album See you later (dont le morceau Memories of green resservira sur 

Blade Runner




  


). C&apos;est la première fois que les deux hommes se croisent. 






  


 




 




 




 





   &gt; Voyage avec Jarre et premiers contacts avec Vangelis


   











































En 1981, le jeune Frederick (23 ans) développe le premierséquenceur polyphonique de marque MDB, et son chemin croise la route de Jean Michel Jarre, qui est impressionné par les possibilités de l&apos;instrument. C&apos;est donc aux côtés du lyonnais que Frederick s&apos;embarque pour la 

tournée de Jarre en Chine

, en 1981, pour laquelle il enregistre pendant plusieurs mois toutes les séquences des trois premiers albums (dont 

Les chants magnétiques

, premier album auquel il a participé). Rentré à Paris, il participe à l&apos;enregistrement du double album 

Concerts en chine

. Puis, à la fin de l&apos;année, il croise Vangelis dans le studio Davout qui enregistre avec Jon Anderson son album sous le nom Jon and Vangelis, Friends of Mister Cairo. C&apos;est aussi à cette époque qu&apos;il rencontre le pianiste autodidacte Jean-Philippe Rykiel (né en 1961), qui deviendra un collaborateur de longue date. Vangelis appelle Rousseau pour l&apos;enregistrement de sa bande-son 

Blade Runner

 en 1982 (qui ne sera publié sous forme de CD qu&apos;en 1994). Il commence par tenir le rôle de veilleur technologique (il surveille tous les synthés qui sortent sur le marché), et de librairie des sons analogiques et digitaux.En 1984, Frederick participe à l aventure

Zoolook

 qui s&apos;avèrent particulièrement exténuante comme il le dit lui-même :     


 





 




    


 






  


 





« Il m&apos;a rendu fou ( ) je mangeais la moquette tellement j&apos;étais épuisé, Jean-Michel était debout en train de me dire : Attend, il faudrait encore faire ça. »







Il déclare à propos de Zoolook, dont il a assuré les samples des musiciens américains (Marcus Miller, Yogi Horton,

« J&apos;ai fourni un travail impressionnant pour Zoolook. Je savais que le son de Jarre serait différent avec cet album, parce que Zoolook est différent en lui-même. C&apos;est l&apos;album le plus important et le plus technique que j&apos;ai réalisé avec lui ».







 




  


Au bout de quatre ans et demi de travail en commun, Frederick quitte le studio de Croissy et la Jarre Team. Les deux personnalités ne sont plus rentrées en contact depuis quelques années maintenant.






  


 




 





   &gt; Studio mega à Paris


   En 1987, il fonde le studio Mega, rue du Maréchal Maunoury à Paris avec l&apos;ingénieur du son Thierry Rogen

où défile la crème de la variété française (Mylène Farmer avant qu&apos;elle ne parte enregistrer aux Etats-Unis avec Rogen, Indochine, Jean-Louis Murat, Kassav, etc.). Pendant cette période (1987-1988), Vangelis quitte ses studios historiques de Nemo à Londres (il en avait plusieurs autres un peu partout dans le monde, depuis 1975) et s&apos;équipe massivement en numérique, ce qu&apos;il n&apos;avait pas prévu quelques années plus tôt. Frederick  déclare rétrospectivement :     


 





 



« Le son change toujours avec la technologie. Pour moi, ce n&apos;est pas que Vangelis qui a changé de son. Le son de Jarre a évolué. Le son de 





Klaus Schulze

 aussi a évolué. »






 




En 1990, Jarre s&apos;offre à nouveau les services de Frederick pour le défi homérique de 

La Défense / une ville en concert




  


, où il conçoit de nouvelles introductions pour les morceaux, et est affecté de nouveau aux séquences.
Il compose de 1990 à 1992 des bibliothèques de sons de la série dite « Illustrator ».






  


 




   


   &gt; Aux côtés de Vangelis


   En 1991, c&apos;est le vrai tournant de sa carrière. Vangelis utilise le studio Mega pendant six mois pour enregistrer son album 

The City

, qu&apos;il a composé dans une chambre d&apos;hôtel. Il est impressionné par la capacité de Vangelis de composer en live ses morceaux, grâce à de nombreuses pédales et une utilisation intuitive des synthétiseurs. En binôme avecPhilippe Colonna, Rousseau apparait sur les crédits de l&apos;album, ainsi que sur tous les albums suivants du grec taciturne.Rousseau participe également au projet Eurêka, évènement européen porté par le ministre hollandais des affaires économiques, sur le thème des transports et de l&apos;industrie, et qui aboutit à un concert sur le port de Rotterdamdevant des centaines de milliers de personnes (275.000 peut-être ?). Ce show d&apos;une heure, entouré de nombreux chanteurs (dont l&apos;inévitable Jon Anderson), sur lequel pèse un lourd soupçon de play-back utilise un ch ur dirigé par Guy Protheroe. Eurêka voit l&apos;utilisation de lasers et d&apos;images projetées pour célébrer l&apos;entente scientifique des européens. Une nouvelle version de l&apos;Hymne de Vangelis est étrennée.



En 1992, Rousseau quitte le studio Mega et l&apos;univers de la variété pour créer le studio Astron à Neuilly, et ne se partager plus qu&apos;entre ses albums et ceux de Vangelis. Le claviériste grec repart dans sa péninsule pour clore sa période parisienne (de 1989 à 1992). Thierry Rogen, de son côté, déménage le studio Mega pour trouver des locaux plus grands, à Suresnes. Vangelis et Rousseau se voient quand Vangelis retourne occasionnellement à Paris ou que Frederick fait le voyage en terre hellénique. Cela ne les empêchent pas d&apos;enregistrent ensemble une série de bandes originales des films : La Peste de Louis Puenzo, Bitter Moon (Lunes de Fiel) de Roman Polanski. Et puis il y a la plus connue de toutes, 

1492 : Christophe Colomb

, de Ridley Scott, qui sera bouclée dans le temps record de 2 mois, pour pouvoir lancer le film en même temps que le cinq-centième anniversaire de la découverte de l&apos;Amérique, le 4 octobre 1492.Rousseau participe aux projets suivants : Antigone (1993), La Nuit des poètes (1994) et Foros Stimis Ston Greko (Tribute to El Greco), en 1995, disque intimiste qui sera édité dans le commerce sous le nom El Greco en 1998, avec deux titres supplémentaires. Un film inspiré de la biographie du peintre, dirigé par Iannis Smaragdis, utilise ces morceaux comme B.O. en 2007.   


 




 




 





   &gt; Réalisations en solo


   En 1994, il publie son album MÔ, un album qui met en valeur des chanteuses japonaises. C&apos;est l&apos;époque de sa vie où il signe sur le label new-age français Origins. Cette musique s&apos;inscrit dans la mouvance ethno-lounge. Rousseau déclare à ce sujet vouloir faire de la musique qu&apos;il a plaisir à écouter chez lui, dans un canapé, les yeux fermés. Les voix ethniques sont la composante essentielle de son travail, qui est moins symphonique que celle de son maître grec.
En 1995, il réalise Spirit in the Woods, album électronique consacré aux arbres, qui emprunte des rythmes africains. Puis vient Abyss (1996), expérience qu&apos;il qualifie de non-musique, puisqu&apos;elle correspond à un projet de musicothérapie. En 1997, il réalise Woods, avec des rythmes tribaux et des voix d&apos;habitants de la forêt. Pour ces disques dépareillés, la méthode de composition ne varie guère :    


 





 




  


« Je suis comme un peintre avec ma palette de sons, stockés sur CD-ROM ou sur mes synthés. ( ) Quand je compose de la musique, j&apos;aime le faire vite, et si possible dans l&apos;ordre des morceaux qui figureront sur mon album. C&apos;est ce que j&apos;ai fais pour MÔ et Woods. »






 




 




  


En 1997, Vangelis se joint à lui pour composer la musique de la cérémonie d&apos;ouverture des Jeux Olympiques d&apos;Athènes, dans le stade antique de Panathanaikos, devant 75.000 spectateurs. Ce spectacle, qui est mondo-diffusé, fait le lien entre sport antique et ère moderne du sport.
Rousseau compose de son côté les bandes-son de 40 films ethnographiques. Il sort sa première collection d&apos;album, les 5 volumes de terres de légendes, entre 1999 et 2000.






  


 




  


À propos de la mode des synthétiseurs analogiques, Rousseau déclare en 1999 :






 


« Aujourd&apos;hui tout le monde est vintage. Jarre est obligé d&apos;utiliser des anciens synthétiseurs pour créer un album marketing [

]. J&apos;aime les vieilles machines mais j&apos;aime aussi les nouvelles. J&apos;utilise chaque instrument pour ses qualités intrinsèques. »






 




En 1993, Vangelis avait commencé à mettre sur pied son opéra cosmique, 

Mythodea




  


, qui lui a été commandé par la NASA. Le projet verra le jour en 2001, pour le lancement de la mission Mars odyssey. C&apos;est Frederick qui est chargé d&apos;être la courroie de transmission entre les divas Jessye Norman, Kathleen Battle, l&apos;Orchestre du London Metropolitanet bien sûr, les synthétiseurs de Vangelis.






  


 




 





   &gt; Des commandes diverses


   En 2002, Rousseau sort un nouvel album solo, Travels. Un an plus tard, il est sollicité par Nature et découvertes pour sortir un album Recall. Certains de ses succès des années 90 apparaissent également sur diverses compilations lounge. On peut citer l&apos;influent Buddha Bar : volumes 3, 4 et 5 (Danya, La fille de Pékin, Princess W. Chena), Buddha Mudra, Marrakesh Express (Accross [the Desert]), etc. Il participe aussi en collaboration avec Fernand Deroussen à la série de disque relaxants  Oxygène series , qui, hors de son titre, n&apos;a rien à voir avec 

l&apos;album de Jean Michel Jarre

.
Retour au cinéma en 2004, il travaille sur la bande-son d&apos;Alexandre, d&apos;Oliver Stone, un travail de titan qui dure un an et qui lui vaut le titre de directeur musical de Vangelis.Le premier album de Frederick, 

Tears



, est paru chez 

Milan

-universal  en 2005. Il s&apos;agit de son album Ethno-électro le plus accessible.L&apos;anée 2006 est le  moment où il procède au remastering de l&apos;intégrale du catalogue de Vangelis pour  EMI 

music

. Il participe dans le même temps à la compilation World.com.En 2007, 

 il  supervise la bande originale du film Jacquou le Croquant, de Laurent Boutonnat.

 Puis, en décembre de cette année-là, il travaille pendant trois mois au nettoyage des bandes  de Blade Runner sur une table de mixage hyper-moderne en vue de la réédition entrois  CD du vingt-cinquième anniversaire de Blade Runner. Fredrick Rousseau précise vouloir consacrer de plus en plus de   temps à la musique de film, exercie plus varié et moins « commercial » pour lui, orientation qui rejoint celle de Vangelis.


   &gt; Ses coups de coeur personnels


   L&apos;année dernière, Rousseau a collaboré avec les chercheurs de l&apos;IRCAM sur Super Phase Vocoder autour de la conception du soft Audiosculpt, qui permet de modifier tous les paramètres d&apos;un son à partir d&apos;une représentation graphique de celui-ci. Frederick Rousseau confesse écouter les radios (FIP et Nova) [alors que le son de la radio écrase la perception de la richesse de la musique, NDLR], et aime particulièrement les albums de Deep Forest 

Bohême

 et Comparsa et le projet Era de son ami compositeur Eric Levi : «La musique d&apos;Era associe pop et new-age avec des ch urs, de la batterie et des sons de guitares électriques : c&apos;est un excellent concept.» Il aime aussi fabriquer des images de synthèses (en témoigne l&apos;esthétique hi-tech de son

    &gt; Sa conclusion sur Jarre et Vangelis


       


 





Ce qui m&apos;amuse, c&apos;est que je me souviens de cette collection de 

Synthétiseur, les plus grands thèmes




  


, volumes 1 et 2, recréés par Ed Starink. J&apos;ai réalisé qu&apos;à chaque fois que quelqu&apos;un cherchait à imiter Jarre et Vangelis, il n&apos;y arrivait pas. C&apos;est toujours pire. Je n&apos;ai jamais trouvé des versions de jarre ou de Vangelis meilleures que l&apos;original. Seulement deux reprises de State of Independance de  Jon and Vangelis, une chantée par Donna Summer faite par Quincy Jones avec le All Star Choir (Christopher Cross, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder et consorts) et une version rock&apos;n&apos;roll de cette même chanson par Chrissie Hynde, excellente.






  


 




  


« Je suis quelqu&apos;un de chanceux », résume-t-il, « j&apos;ai vu l&apos;émergence du monde du synthé. À travers Jarre, à travers Vangelis, à travers divers artistes. Je mesure cette chance. Travailler avec eux est un poste d&apos;observation privilégié pour voir différentes approches du business, des concerts et de la musique. Je confirme qu&apos;ils sont tous les deux uniques en leur genre.

Back from 2 weeks in Greece...  35° and few interesting evenings and nights working on &quot; Mandolin &amp;amp; Poet &quot; new album.....

It is sometime really refreshing ,working only on acoustics and reals instruments, just remember you how it is, in real life of sounds. It is a nice greek lounge music ..... (let you know when it should be realeased )

I saw some of my old greek&apos;s friends.... and now will be back to Paris for a mounth of IRCAM works.

		<summary type="text/plain">Since the beginning of my carrier , I was always intrigued by IRCAM this strange institut of Electronique music in france.



But thru Christophe MARTIN de MONTAGU an old friend, he propose to continue his work at IRCAM for a one year mission as Industrial Valorisation Superviser;  It is an amazing new experience for me. A group of 80 searchers and engineers, a total of 120 persons working in this institut....  My job here is to insert IRCAM Technologies in musical softwares, and others Audio-applications, Very cool job......I really love that.



For all of you, interesting by softwares. You have to check &quot;AUDIOSCULT&quot; it is an amazing software for audio treatments...

Morin Khuur is a Mongolian Strings Instruments , played at the east country, This Music is 20 minutes long including ethnic singers and Morin khuur players etc.... The film should be diffused in October on the french TV Channel TF1.....

Next week I will put this music on the blog just as a new online experience.
By clicking on the paypal link       you will abble to get  20 minutes Soundtracks without any DRM . AAC or MP3 format plus pictures and comments about the film will be include in the ZIP files ... When you download it thru a Downloading center adress and a code that you will  receive by email... antas is finishing the process... The price will be 4 € the Full folder.... 

Why I am doing this ??? :
- A lot of record label wants to get your full music catalog, but only for a online sale; no more CD&apos;s.

Then with the WORLD.COM PROJECT  I can combine the idea with this concept.
 I will put every months a new ZIP files during one Year... 
we call it : &quot;WORLD.COM Voyages &quot; ( 12 X 20 mn of world and ethnic musics ) .
and can be only download thru the center . 
July 2008 :  240 minutes of musics more than 4 hours for 48 € will be produced.

		<title>NEWS FROM US</title>

Just finish  &quot;BLADE RUNNER&quot; Version 2 project with VANGELIS ..... 
Three months of works including restoring tape process and new mixes with the last Euphonix Serie 5 desk. 

WORLD . COM project is still on fire , I start some Spacy Final Mixes , and I should make the delivery and the end of the Year. My friend Thierry ROGEN is going to join the project as the final sound Engineer. Guy PROTEREO and his choir section are appearing during all album.... Some other guest are going to appear during the final recording process ( Eric Levi, Jean Philippe Rykiel, Michel Portal, Armand Amar etc...) 
I would like to thanks all peoples supporting us with sending email and messages , and to sorry myself of this long moment of silence , I give you this piece of peace :
(No DRM !!! )

		<title>BACK ON TRACKS</title>

After 6 mounths of silence I am back on the blog. What I did ???  
Let&apos;s rewind a little bit...
Firstly , in 2005 I was contacted by Laurent Boutonnat to supervise the Soundtrack of his new movie &quot;Jacquou le Croquant&quot; After few mounths delay; we start working on July until December ; It was a very pleasant, and a difficult work at the same time.....Laurent had a so much overload schedule.... 
We only works few hours on the music score per week; normally I love to be immerge completly in the movie when I am working on the music, but in this case it was not possible .... Anyway new &quot;Experiences&quot; are always good learnings. Finally at the end of august I Introduced Nic Raine to Laurent for the Orchestration and the Orchestra direction... 
L.B was very pleasant during orchestration process, his compositions was   really nice..... and I see him really enjoying the sessions in Prague as a breath of Music in the meeddle of the full works to archieve this kind of film... He is a worker-maniac.... Plus a real perfectionist....

In december I meet the &quot;EL GRECO&quot; Director &quot;Iannis Zvaratzis &quot;. A new movie around the &quot;El Greco&quot; painter life and his humans relationship with Tissian.  The movie is co-produce by Spain and Greece. Vangelis should sign the Soundtracks. 
I went to the shooting set at Marcopoulo (40 Km from Athens) . Really nice set and amazing &quot;El Greco&quot; painting reproduction. Should be release October 2007. Nice Project.......
 I will let you know the future of &quot;WORLD.COM&quot;during the next weeks; Some contacts with musicians, producers start to increase the contents of the project....

		<title>LAST NIGHT in the 6th DISTRICT</title>

After nearly 20 years at ODEON, I decide to move  for a new place in Paris .
I loved this  area  very much, I made nearly 10 albums  inspired by  the beauty and the artistic inspiration of the 6th, but it is now became too much touristic and artificial crowdy area, then I am leaving with tones of memories and souvenirs...with no regrets....  
A french Movie as musical superviseur is going to  scheduled my summer. 
But I am going to continue working on &quot;World.com&quot;as producer during the next 3 mounths.
Roberto Briot is going to record all  Basses and some guitars are going to be done by Jean Michel Khajdan and I should also record some Jean Philippe Rykiel&apos;s Keyboards in is new studio  during summer ....  Have nice summer and enjoy it....
